Combining a holiday in Venice with a week in the Alps at the Retreat has been so popular with some of our visitors that we've actually added this page to the web-site especially. One guest actually used the phrase “the perfect holiday”. But let's not dwell on that too long or it'll go to our heads.

One of the main reasons the City of Bridges is such a perfect complement to holiday in our alpine cottage is practicality. Marco Polo airport (Venice's own) is about a two-hour drive from the Retreat and is much more regularly served than Trieste (the closest airport), particularly by Easyjet, who fly there direct from Belfast, Bristol, East Midlands and London Gatwick. They even fly there from Paris which means you could arrange the most romantic holiday imaginable (Paris, Venice, secluded mountain hideaway) and earn a year's worth of brownie points in less than a fortnight.

Another thing that's become clear from speaking to guests who spent time in Venice and the cottage is that although one is a city and one is a hideaway in the Alps, both share a feeling of relaxation and peace. Venice is obviously famous for being built around canals but what most people don't realise until they get there is that this means there is no road traffic whatsoever. Everyone travels by boat or by foot so you don't need to spend hours trying to find a cafe on a quiet road, because they all are. It's a genuinely unique city and a great place to spend time if you're looking for some relaxation, which makes it a wonderful complement to the Retreat.
