Horse Riding
For riding enthusiasts and trivia fiends, Slovenia's biggest claim to fame in the equine world is that it has the original breeding ground for
Lipizzaner horses
. These short, pale horses, bred over many centuries from a combination of Arabian, Andalusion, Spanish and local working horses, are the same as those which train and perform at the renowned Spanish riding school in Vienna, their famously strong hind legs allowing them to perform dressage in a way that no other horse can.
There are stables near both the Retreat and the Farmhouse which offer lessons or trail riding on pure-bred Lipizzaners for riders of all levels. We are happy to organise days there for you either when you book or when you arrive. The really keen riders may want to think about a day trip to the Lipica stud farm to watch a performance and get lessons from the masters themselves. If you are a horse lover, this really should be in bold at the top of your list of things to do.
Prices for riding near the Farmhouse start at just £35 for two hours.
