Bohinjska Bela in Winter

The Farmhouse

Village Charm

Bohinjska Bela sits just four kilometres from Bled, surrounded by cliff faces and looking out across the famous Bohinjka valley to the mountains beyond. A peaceful local village with stunning views, it's a fantastic place for a country holiday. By the end of the first day you'll be convinced that in an age of mobile phones, traffic jams and trains strikes, life doesn't need to be that complicated.

Always important for a self catering holiday, the local shop (the 'Mercator') has just about everything you'll need during your stay. The local pub serves excellent beer and a good selection of schnapps- a local speciality- as well as a range of Slovenian wine. The restaurant opposite the train station is well known in the area for serving top notch Slovenian food; the steak and locally caught trout are both mouth-wateringly good.

51% of Slovenians live in the countryside and once you've been on holiday there it's easy to see why. The scenery is magnificent, especailly if you walk up the hill to Kupljenik and look back over the valley. You can cycle round to neighbouring Ribno for some of the best calamari in the country (Pri Dveh Petelinih is the restaurant's name), or just lounge around the Farmhouse and wonder why life has to be so much more stressful back home.
